BOSTON - A previously convicted Easthampton man pleaded guilty to firearm charges today.
Jeremy Wright, 37, pleaded guilty to one count of illegal firearms dealing and one count of illegally possessing a firearm after having been convicted of a felony. Wright had initially been charged with three counts of firearm related violations. In May 2011, he was convicted by a jury for possessing a Raven .25 caliber pistol; however, the judge declared a mistrial on the remaining two counts. Wright elected to plead guilty to those remaining counts today, and will avoid a new trial on those charges.
Evidence showed that in January 2005, Wright received two pistols that were stolen from a home in Westfield and then traded both pistols for crack cocaine to a narcotics trafficker in Holyoke. In April 2005, Wright received three shotguns and a rifle that were stolen from a home in Easthampton, and then traded the guns to various individuals, including two narcotics traffickers, for crack cocaine and cash in Holyoke. At the time of the misconduct, Wright's possession of firearms was illegal because he had been previously convicted of a crime.
Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 8, 2012. According to the terms of his plea agreement, Wright has agreed to serve 17 years in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release.

Breslow of Ortiz's Springfield Office.
