BOSTON, Mass. - A Boston man was sentenced today in federal court for being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

LAMAR CARRIGAN, 33, was sentenced by United States District Judge Nancy Gertner as an armed career criminal to 15 years imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release. CARRIGAN pleaded guilty on March 3, 2011.

Had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that on the morning of February 1, 2008, Boston Police received a 911 call from a motorist who indicated that he had been assaulted with a handgun by an unknown individual following a traffic incident on Intervale Street. Based on a description of the suspect and the car he was driving, the Boston Police observed the vehicle on Southwood Street a short time later. An individual, later identified as CARRIGAN was seen entering the vehicle and driving away. The vehicle was eventually stopped and CARRIGAN was placed under arrest. Located on CARRIGAN was a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun..

U.S. Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz; Guy Thomas, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms - Boston Field Office; and Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis made the announcement today. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth G. Shine of Ortiz’s Major Crime Unit.
