THREE INDICTED IN FEDERAL MARIJUANA CONSPIRACY
BOSTON, Mass. - Three area men involved in a marijuana distribution conspiracy face charges in federal court.
Michael J. Prochilo, Jr., 41, of North Reading, Edward Harris, 36, of Revere and Michael Crowley, 27, of Everett have been charged with conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana. Prochilo was arrested today; Crowley was arrested on Oct. 27; Harris is presently in state custody on unrelated charges.
If convicted of the charge alleged in the indictment, the defendants each face up to 40 years imprisonment to be followed by four years of supervised release and a maximum fine of $4 million.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz, Steven Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Boston Field Division, William Offord, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation, Boston Field Division and Bruce Foucart, Special Agent in Charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Office of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston made the announcement today. The investigation included assistance from law enforcement officials in Arizona, Utah and Nebraska. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Theodore B. Heinrich of Ortiz’s Organized Drug Enforcement Task Force Unit.
The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
