SOUTH BOSTON MAN GUILTY OF CONSPIRING TO COLLECT A DEBT USING EXTORTIONATE MEANS

BOSTON, Mass. - Earlier today a federal jury found PATRICK DEHERTOGH, 48, guilty of conspiring with others to extort an individual and collect a debt using extortionate means.

DEHERTOGH’s co-conspirators, MICHAEL LEE, a/k/a “Josh Wingenheimer, 27, of Dorchester, and DAVID GEFKE, 48, of South Boston, pleaded guilty earlier this month. Co-defendant BRANDON MILBY, 42, of Dorchester, was arrested on February 9, 2010, and pleaded guilty earlier this month.

From January - February 2010, DEHERTOGH and his conspirators made multiple attempts to collect money owed defendant GEFKE. The victim reported the crime to law enforcement, and cooperated with authorities to identify the defendants.

All four defendants face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison on each count. Sentencing of DEHERTOGH will take place on January 27. Sentencing of DAVID GEFKE will take place on February 9, and the sentencing of MILBY and LEE will take place on January 20.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz, Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, and Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis made the announcement today. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura J. Kaplan in the Organized Crime Strike Force Unit.
