TWO MEN SENTENCED FOR MANUFACTURING METHAMPHETAMINE IN ANDOVER

WEDNESDAY, MAY 12, 2010

BOSTON, Mass - Two Andover men were sentenced today in federal court for manufacturing methamphetamine in a clandestine laboratory located in an Andover residence.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz, Steven Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Division and Chief Brian J. Pattullo of the Andover Police Department announced today that JAY KEOUGH, 44, and RYAN EMMETT, 31, both of Andover, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joseph L. Tauro to five years imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release. On September 23, 2009, KEOUGH and EMMETT pleaded guilty to manufacturing methamphetamine.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that the two defendants manufactured methamphetamine in a clandestine laboratory located on the bottom floor of a residence on Lowell Street throughout 2008 and into March of 2009. Pursuant to the execution of a federal search warrant on March 25, 2009, the clandestine laboratory was discovered, dismantled and removed from the Lowell Street residence, and the defendants were arrested on site.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Andover Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Crowley of Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit.
