ALLEGED MURDERER ARRESTED FOR SELLING CRACK COCAINE ON THE CAPE

BOSTON, Mass. - A Mississippi man out on bail for allegedly murdering a Mississippi man in 2008 was arrested today in Mashpee for distribution of crack cocaine.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz; Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New England Field Division; Massachusetts State Police Colonel Marian J. McGovern; Nantucket Police Chief William Pittman; Mashpee Police Chief Rodney Collins; and Barnstable County Sheriff James M. Cummings, announced today that DERRICK GOODE, a/k/a “Doom”, 38, of Rosedale, Miss., formerly of Nantucket, was charged in a complaint with distribution of cocaine base.

GOODE’s detention hearing will be held on June 11, 2010.

If convicted, GOODE faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years imprisonment to be followed by a five year minimum term of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the DEA, Massachusetts State Police, and Nantucket Police Department with assistance from Mashpee Police Department and Barnstable Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Fisher of Ortiz’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Unit.

The details contained in the complaint are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
