JULES RODRIGUE SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS
JULES RODRIGUE, age 31, a resident of Waggaman, Louisiana. was sentenced today by U. S. District Judge Lance M. Africk to 25 years imprisonment for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense, announced U. S Attorney Dana J. Boente. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Africk imposed five years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment. During the five-year term the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate the terms of his supervised release.
On January 10, 2012, RODRIGUE previously entered a guilty plea before Judge Africk admitting that on February 25, 2011, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Westwego. Upon entering, they observed RODRIGUE in possession of a firearm and crack cocaine, which he discarded as he fled through a bedroom window. Upon arrest, RODRIGUE was found to have a clear plastic bag containing crack cocaine, a cell phone, and $927.00 in currency. RODRIGUE later admitted that he was on federal probation, he possessed the handgun, and he intended on selling and distributing the drugs.
After sentencing, RODRIGUE was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin G. Boitmann.
