JAMES L. EARLS, JR. SENTENCED TO 5 YEARS FOR FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES
JAMES L. EARLS, JR., age 30, a resident of Houma, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by United States District Judge Helen G. Berrigan to 5 years (60 months) imprisonment for his role in a conspiracy to distribute five (5) grams or more of cocaine base or “crack,” and two counts of distribution of five (5) grams or more of cocaine base or “crack,” announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Berrigan ordered that EARLS be placed on six (6) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
EARLS was found guilty on February 7, 2012, after a two-day trial.
The case was investigated by the Louisiana State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorneys William Quinlan, Jr. and Edward Rivera.
