FELIPE ALVAREZ-CERVANTES SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A PROHIBITED PERSON AND ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY
FELIPE ALVAREZ-CERVANTES, age 32, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Ivan L. R. Lemelle to 45 months imprisonment, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Lemelle ordered that ALVAREZ be placed on three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
According to court documents, on or about February 8, 2012, ALVAREZ, pled guilty to a two-count indictment, admitting that he was an alien illegally and unlawfully in the United States, who did knowingly possess a firearm. ALVAREZ further admitted that he was an alien who was previously removed and was knowingly and unlawfully found in the United States in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana without the Attorney General or Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, having expressly consented to his re-application for admission into the United States
The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorneys Joe La Rocca and Robert Weir.
