HAMMOND MAN CHARGED WITH FALSE STATEMENTS AND FILING FALSE TAX RETURNS

JOHN M. NDANYI, a resident of Hammond, Louisiana, was charged in a one-count Bill of Information today with violating federal law when he filed a false tax return with the Internal Revenue Service and did not report approximately $105,817.00 of income, announced United States Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the Bill of Information, in April 2009, in the Eastern District of Louisiana, the defendant, JOHN M. NDANYI, filed a 2008 United States Individual Income Tax Return, Form 1040, in which he willfully failed to report approximately $105,817 worth of income.

If convicted, JOHN M. NDANYI faces a maximum term of imprisonment of three (3) years, followed by up to one (1) year of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine and may be forced to pay restitution to the IRS.

United States Attorney Letten reiterated that the Bill of Information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg.
