AVONDALE WOMAN SENTENCED FOR THEFT OF GOVERNMENT FUNDS

ALMA WILLIAMS, age 49, of Avondale, Louisiana, was sentenced today by U. S. District Judge Stanwood R. Duval, Jr., to three (3) years probation for theft of government funds, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. Additionally, WILLIAMS was ordered to pay full restitution of $69,651 to the United States Social Security Administration.

According to court documents, WILLIAMS received Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits (“DIB”) payments to which she knew she was not entitled, having a value of approximately $69,651. WILLIAMS concealed the fact that she was employed. Her monthly income was greater than the threshold amount allowable for an individual who was receiving SSA disability benefits.

The case was investigated by the United States Social Security Administration- Office of Inspector General, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Loan “Mimi” Nguyen.
