NEW YORK MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO VIOLATIONS OF THE FEDERAL
GUN CONTROL ACT
YOSSEL EUSEBIO VALENCIA-LACAYO, age 23, a resident of New York, pled guilty in federal court today before U. S. District Judge Ivan L. R. Lemelle to a two-count indictment charging him with making false statements during the purchase of a firearm and willful delivery of firearms to a contract carrier without written notice, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, in March 2010, VALENCIA knowingly made false and fictitious written statements to a licensed firearms dealer during the purchase of a firearm in Slidell. VALENCIA also admitted to delivering five firearms to a contract carrier in Kenner for shipment in foreign commerce to an unlicensed person, without providing written notice to the contract carrier that the shipment contained firearms.
VALENCIA faces maximum penalty of fifteen (15) years imprisonment, a fine of $500,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing has been scheduled for March 21, 2012 at 2:00 P.M.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations (ICE).
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
