ALIEN SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY AND FALSE REPRESENTATION OF A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
VICTOR MANUEL MARTINEZ-ROMERO, age 29, a citizen of Honduras, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to approximately five (5) months imprisonment, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on August 25, 2011, MARTINEZ pled guilty to two counts of an indictment admitting he falsely represented that a Social Security number had been assigned to him by the Commissioner of Social Security with intent to deceive, for identification purposes. He also admitted that he was an alien who was previously removed and was knowingly and unlawfully found in the United States in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana without the Attorney General or Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, having expressly consented to his re-application for admission into the United States.
This case was investigated as part of a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) national operation known as Operation Cross Check. ICE was assisted in this operation in the New Orleans area by the Louisiana State Police, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kenner Police Department, Harahan Police Department, and the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections - Division of Probation and Patrol. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir.
