ORLEANS PARISH MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO DRUGS AND WEAPONS CHARGES
KELLY P. HARRELL, age 45, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court today before U. S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle, to a four-count indictment for illegally possessing a firearm, possessing both crack cocaine and heroin with the intent to distribute, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking crimes, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today.
In Count 1, HARRELL pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm despite being a prior convicted felon. This charge carries a maximum sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, forfeiture of the firearm and a maximum of three (3) years of federal supervision after the completion of his prison sentence.
In Count 2, HARRELL pleaded guilty to possessing crack cocaine with the intent to distribute it. This charge carries a maximum sentence of twenty (20) years imprisonment, a $1,000,000.00 fine, and a minimum of three (3) years of federal supervision after the completion of his prison sentence.
In Count 3, HARRELL pleaded guilty to possessing heroin with the intent to distribute it. This charge carries a maximum sentence twenty (20) years imprisonment, a $1,000,000.00 fine, and a minimum of three (3) years of federal supervision after the completion of his prison sentence.
In Count 4, HARRELL pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. This charge carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment to be run consecutive to any other term of imprisonment ordered in the case, a $250,000.00 fine, and three (3) years of federal supervision after completion of his sentence.
Sentencing is scheduled for February 29, 2011 at 2:00pm.
This case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department along with Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rick Veters of the Violent Crime Unit.
