LUKE SOBIECHOWSKI, age 23, of Tallahassee, Florida, was sentenced today by U. S. District Court Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon to over five years (70 months) in prison, followed by eight (8) years of supervised release, after previously pleading guilty to a felony involving the sexual exploitation of children, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the court documents, after receiving information that SOBIECHOWSKI had searched for, downloaded, and viewed images depicting the victimization of children via computer software from the Internet, on October 29, 2009, federal agents located SOBIECHOWSKI at his former residence in New Orleans, Louisiana. SOBIECHOWSKI was found to be in possession of computers that contained images depicting the sexual victimization of minor children. SOBIECHOWSKI admitted to downloading the images by using “peer-to-peer” computer software, into which he input specific search terms to search for electronic images. SOBIECHOWSKI further admitted that he would subsequently download and save the images to his personal computer.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. This case was investigated by special agents from the U. S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).
