ILLEGAL ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY TO FALSE STATEMENT TO U. S. CITIZENSHIP AND ILLEGAL USE OF A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

ROBERTO GUEVARA-PALOMEQUE, age 33, a citizen of Mexico, pled guilty in federal court today before U. S. District Judge Lance M. Africk to a two-count indictment charging him with making a false statement or claim to U. S. citizenship and for misuse of a social security number, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the factual basis, on or about July 8, 2011, GUEVARA, an alien in the United States knowingly made a false statement or claim that he was a United States citizen on a Form I-9 with the intent to engage unlawfully in employment in the United States. Also according to the factual basis GUEVARA falsely represented on a Form I-9 that a social security number was assigned to him, when in fact the social security number had not been assigned to him.

GUEVARA faces on each count, a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing has been scheduled for January 26, 2012 at 2:00p.m.

The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe La Rocca.
