ILLEGAL ALIEN INDICTED FOR ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 27, 2011

EDUARDO ISAAC PAZ-MUTZ, age 37, a citizen of Guatemala, was charged in a one-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for illegal re-entry into the United States by a removed alien, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, on or about October 24, 2011, PAZ an alien who had previously been removed from the United States, was knowingly and unlawfully found in the United States in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana without the Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security having expressly consented to his re-application for admission into the United States.

If convicted, PAZ faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty (20) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Joe La Rocca.
