RAYMOND L. POLK, age 28, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty yesterday in federal court before U. S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman, to a two-count indictment for possession of firearms by a convicted felon, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to a factual basis, on July 26, 2009, New Orleans Police responded to a disturbance call and made contact with POLK. During this encounter, New Orleans Police Officers observed POLK remove a loaded .380 caliber pistol from his waistband in an attempt to conceal his illegal possession of a firearm by a person who had prior felony convictions. After POLK’s 2009 arrest, he was arrested again on October 8, 2010 by New Orleans Police for a disturbance call at a bar. On that occasion, POLK was carrying a loaded .9mm and a .22 caliber pistol in his pants pocket. POLK is prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms since he has two prior felony convictions for possession of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

POLK faces a maximum possible sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment, a $250,000.00 fine, and three (3) years of supervised release on each count. Sentencing is scheduled for February 8, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. before U. S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman.

The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Abe McGull of the U. S. Attorney Violent Crime Unit.
