MARQUIS MITCHELL, 32, a resident of Lutcher, was sentenced to a term of 262 months imprisonment on counts of conspiracy to distribute, distribution, and possession with intent to distribute quantities of cocaine, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

MARQUIS MITCHELL pled guilty on December 8, 2010, before U.S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride, one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride, one count of distribution of fifty grams or more of cocaine base and one count of distribution of a quantity of cocaine base. The conspiracy count carries a mandatory minimum term of ten years imprisonment and a maximum term of life imprisonment. The fifty gram distribution count carries a mandatory minimum term of ten years imprisonment and a maximum term of life imprisonment. The remaining counts carry a maximum term of thirty years imprisonment.

According to court records, beginning at a time unknown but prior to January 8, 2010 and continuing until about February 12, 2010, MITCHELL did knowingly and intentionally combine, conspire, confederate and agree with other persons known and unknown to the grand jury to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute five hundred grams or more of cocaine hydrochloride.

Also, according to the indictment, on or about January 8, 2010, MITCHELL did knowingly and intentionally distribute fifty grams or more of cocaine base. Additionally, on or about February 12, 2010, MITCHELL knowingly and intentionally possessed with the intent to distribute quantities of both cocaine hydrochloride and cocaine base.

The investigation is being conducted by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Andre’ Jones.
