NEW ORLEANS MAN SENTENCED FOR MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS TO A FEDERAL AGENCY
GREGORY MASSEY, age 30, a resident of Kenner, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by United States District Judge Carl J. Barbier to three (3) years probation for providing material false statements to the United States.
According to court documents, in August, 2010, the Port Director of Galliano, Louisiana received information that MASSEY had falsely executed CBP Form 1300 relative to Vessel Entrance and Clearance as the master, authorized agent, or officer of a number of merchant vessels. Such forms are required to be submitted by law to the Department of Homeland Security, U. S. Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”) by a vessel’s master, authorized agent, or officer under penalty of perjury. The CBP Form 1300 is the first sheet in the vessel’s “Manifest Package” and generally accompanies other CBP required filings including Ship’s Stores Declarations, Crew’s Effects Declarations, Passenger Lists, and Crew Lists. These forms are all required to be filed by law or regulation and are within CBP’s jurisdiction.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael Magner.
