TWO NEW ORLEANS MEN SENTENCED IN DRUG AND GUN CONSPIRACY
DWAYNE HINES, age 27, and MICHAEL D. BERNARD, JR., age 30, both residents of New Orleans, Louisiana, were sentenced today before United States District Judge Martin L. C. Feldman for violations of the Federal Controlled Substances Act and the Federal Gun Control Act involving the trafficking of heroin, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
HINES pled guilty to seven (7) counts including: conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin, conspiracy to possess firearms during a drug trafficking offense, distribution of heroin on three occasions, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Judge Feldman sentenced HINES to over twelve (12) years (147 months), three (3) years of supervised release, and a $700 special assessment.
BERNARD pled guilty to seven (7) counts including: conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin, conspiracy to possess firearms during a drug trafficking offense, distribution of heroin on four (4) occasions and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Judge Feldman sentenced BERNARD to over six (6) years (78 months), three (3) years of supervised release, and a $700 special assessment.
The case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Task Force Officers from New Orleans Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney W. Scott Laragy.
