TWO NEW ORLEANS MEN INDICTED FOR VIOLATIONS OF THE FEDERAL CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES ACT

GARAN GIBSON, age 26, and MATTHEW COUSAN, age 23, both of New Orleans, Louisiana, were charged in a six-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for violations of the Federal Controlled Substances Act, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

Count 1 charged GIBSON and COUSAN with conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute heroin. Counts 2-6 charged GIBSON and COUSAN with distributing heroin on several occasions.

If convicted, GIBSON and COUSAN could face a maximum term of imprisonment of thirty (30) years, a fine of $2,000,000.00 and six (6) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is being investigated jointly by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Elizabeth Privitera.
