AVONDALE WOMAN CHARGED WITH THEFT OF GOVERNMENT FUNDS

ALMA WILLIAMS, age 48, a resident of Avondale, Louisiana, was charged in a one-count Bill of Information with theft of government funds, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the bill of information, WILLIAMS received Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits (“DIB”) payments to which she knew she was not entitled, having a value of approximately $69,651.

WILLIAMS faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the United States Social Security Administration- Office of Inspector General, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Loan “Mimi” Nguyen.
