SLIDELL MAN SENTENCED FOR VIOLATION OF FEDERAL MIGRATORY BIRD ACT
MARC DAVID MACIERA, age 36, a resident of Slidell, Louisiana was sentenced today by U. S. District Judge Lance M. Africk to three (3) years probation with sixty (60) days home detention for selling migratory bird parts in violation of federal law, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition, the defendant was ordered to pay $2,200.00 in restitution.
According to court documents, MARCIERA previously pled guilty admitting that on multiple occasions between March and June 2008, he sold and offered for sale via the internet parts of Anhingas, a migratory bird protected under federal law. Specifically, MACIERA sold sets of Anhingas feathers for approximately $300 each and sent the feathers via the U. S. Mail.
The case was investigated by the United States Fish & Wildlife Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg.
