ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED FOR FRAUD AND MISUSE OF A PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD AND ILLEGAL USE OF A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 2, 2011

DIEGO PUCASTRO, age 28, a resident of Guatemala, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Ivan L. R. Lemelle to approximately five (5) months imprisonment with credit for time served, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Lemelle ordered that PUCASTRO be placed on two (2) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

According to court documents, on December 8, 2010, PUCASTRO pled guilty to possessing and attempting to use a counterfeit Permanent Resident card. The defendant also admitted he falsely represented that a Social Security number had been assigned to him for the purpose of obtaining employment.

The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
