NEW ORLEANS MAN SENTENCED TO 35 MONTHS FOR FEDERAL GUN CHARGE
CORNELIUS BUTLER, age 24, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Ivan L. R. Lemelle to thirty-five (35) months imprisonment for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition, the defendant was ordered to serve three (3) years supervised release during which time he will be under federal supervision and risks additional imprisonment should he violate the terms of his release.
According to court documents, on November 10, 2010, BUTLER pled guilty admitting on February 24, 2010, he was in possession of a Glock Model 36, .45 caliber pistol. BUTLER further admitted that he was previously convicted on January 29, 2009 Orleans Parish for possession of cocaine.
The case was investigated by the Gretna Police Department, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and is was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
