DOMINICAN MAN INDICTED FOR FALSE CLAIM TO U. S. CITIZENSHIP
EDUARDO MANUEL POLANCO, age 43, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, was charged today in a one-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for making a false claim to United States citizenship, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the indictment, on approximately January 11, 2011, POLANCO, an alien in the United States, represented himself to be a citizen of the United States. If convicted for false claim to United States citizenship, POLANCO faces a possible maximum sentence of three (3) years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine and one (1) year of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
This investigation was conducted by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
