KENNER MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO TRAFFICKING IN COUNTERFEIT SAINTS JERSEYS
BAKIR RAJKOTWALA, a/k/a/ “BAKIR,” age 50, a resident of Kenner, pled guilty today before U. S. District Court Judge Lance Africk to trafficking in counterfeit goods, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents RAJKOTWALA who owns and operates BIG EASY GIFTS located at 710 South Peters Street, New Orleans, Louisiana was selling counterfeit Saints Football jerseys. On October 27th 2010, Department of Homeland Security special agents confiscated approximately 58 counterfeit “NFL” Reebok Saints Jerseys from BIG EASY GIFTS. The value of the seized items was approximately $3,500.00 according to U.S. Customs officials.
RAJKOTWALA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years, three year of supervised release after any imprisonment, a $2,000,000.00 fine and a $100.00 special assessment.
U. S. District Court Judge Lance Africk scheduled February 17, 2011 as the sentencing date for RAJKOTWALA.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney W. Scott Laragy.
