TONGIA LAWSON, age 24, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to eighteen (18) months probation as well as pay a $250 fine for discarding a mail bag, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, LAWSON previously pled guilty admitting on January 30, 2010, she was assigned a bag of mail to be delivered to residents living in Uptown New Orleans. She further admitted that she disposed of the bag containing 217 pieces of mail in a trash dumpster.

The case was investigated by the Office of Inspector General for the U. S. Postal Service, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Spiro Latsis.
