NEW ORLEANS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL GUN CHARGE
QUINCY L. JYNES, age 22, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty yesterday in federal court before U. S. District Judge Martin L. C. Feldman to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the factual basis, on May 3, 2009, while New Orleans Police Officers were conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle JYNES was driving, the officers observed JYNES attempting to hid a handgun. Subsequent investigation revealed that JYNES was convicted for felony possession of cocaine on February 20, 2008 in Orleans Parish.
JYNES faces a possible maximum sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and up to three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled for December 22, 2010.
The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
