WAGGAMANN MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 11 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR NARCOTICS AND WEAPONS VIOLATIONS
GUY MANNING, JR., age 32, a resident of Waggamann, Louisiana, was sentenced in federal court today by U. S. District Judge Lance M. Africk to over eleven (11) years (137 months) imprisonment for two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride, and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. Judge Africk also imposed three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his release.
According to court records, GUY MANNING JR. pled guilty on April 14, 2010, admitting that in July 2009, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Deputies executed a search warrant on his residence located on Iris Lane in Waggamann. In MANNING’S bedroom, deputies discovered 14.92 grams of cocaine hydrochloride packaged in plastic bags for distribution, digital scales, $800.00 in cash, and a glass plate with cocaine residue. Additionally, deputies also found three loaded semi-automatic handguns in close proximity to the narcotics. Subsequent investigation revealed that was convicted in May, 1997 of felony cocaine possession in Jefferson Parish. In addition, MANNING was also convicted in August, 2005 of possessing a firearm in Jefferson Parish.
After sentencing, MANNING was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with deputies from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rick Veters.
