HOUSTON MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES
LANDRY GRANDISON, age 35, a resident of Houston, Texas, pled guilty today in federal court before U. S. District Judge Stanwood Duval to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 1 kilogram or more of heroin and 500 grams or more of cocaine hydrochloride, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten
According to the court documents, GRANDISON and fourteen other individuals were charged on January 29, 2010 with federal drug and firearms violations by way of superceding indictment. According to the factual basis, the investigation was rooted in the heroin trafficking activities of William Stevenson, one of GRANDISON’s co-defendants who supplied retail distributors with multiple “bundles” of heroin for distribution to addicts in B.W. Cooper Housing Development. GRANDISON admitted that he supplied heroin to the Stevenson. GRANDISON admitted he was responsible for distributing and that it was reasonably foreseeable to him that his co-conspirators distributed at least 10 kilograms of heroin and 500 grams of cocaine hydrochloride.
Co-defendants Pinkney, Stevenson, Issac, and Minor have previously pled guilty to the their roles in the conspiracy and are scheduled to be sentenced on September 15, 2010. Co-defendant Generio Allen who is a fugitive. The remaining defendants are scheduled for trial on October 25, 2010.
GRANDISON faces a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled for November 10, 2010.
The case was investigated by DEA in collaboration with the Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force (HIDTA) and the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF).
The HIDTA Task Force is led by DEA and includes a team of dedicated investigators from the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. OCDETF is an important program which targets the most significant drug trafficking organizations within the United States, as well as those outside of the United States borders that impact drug trafficking within the United States. Also assisting in the enforcement operations were the Louisiana State Police, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kenner Police Department, and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, the United States Internal Revenue Service, and the Department for Housing and Urban Development-OIG.
