CHARLES S. LARVINETTE, a/k/a “Chedda,” age 21, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged in a one-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to indictment, on May 25, 2010, LARVINETTE was in possession of a Glock Model 17, 9mm caliber pistol. It is also alleged that LARVINETTE was previously convicted on July 31, 2009 in Orleans Parish for Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, and was on probation at the time he possessed the firearm.

If convicted, LARVINETTE faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000, and up to three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
