INDICTMENT FOR ASSAULT UPON A FEDERAL OFFICER WITH A DANGEROUS WEAPON

BRANDON BANKS, age 24, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged today by a Federal Grand Jury in a one-count indictment with forcibly assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the indictment, on February 28, 2007, BANKS used a firearm to assault an ATF Special Agent. If convicted, BANKS faces a maximum sentence of twenty (20) years in prison, and a $250,000 fine.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is being investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brian P. Marcelle.
