HOUMA MAN CHARGED WITH TAX EVASION
REGINALD CAILLOUET, JR., age 61, of Houma, Louisiana, was charged in a one count bill of information with tax evasion, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the bill of information, in April 2006, CAILLOUET attempted to evade paying approximately $43,487.00 in income tax by filing a false 2004 tax return stating that he did not have any tax due 2004. CAILLOUET stated that his income for 2004 was only $5.00, when in truth and in fact, as the defendant well knew, his taxable income was at least $117,928.00.
CAILLOUET faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 5 years, a fine of $100,000.00 and 2 years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being investigated by Internal Revenue Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney G. Dall Kammer.
