MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHARGES IN DRUG CONSPIRACY THAT LED TO OVERDOSE
MATTHEW S. OLVANY, age 30, a resident of Metairie, Louisiana, pled guilty yesterday in federal court before U. S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon to conspiring with other known individuals to distribute quantities of heroin and distribution of a quantity of heroin, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the factual basis, OLVANY admitted that he was the source of a quantity of heroin that was ingested and ultimately led to the overdose death of a 21year old male on February 4, 2008.
OLVANY faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty (20) years, a fine of $1,000,000 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment as to both counts. Sentencing has been scheduled for April 22, 2010.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorneys William J. Quinlan, Jr. and Maurice E. Landrieu, Jr.
