TEXAS SOURCE OF ECSTACY SENTENCED IN FEDERAL COURT
DAT VIET TIEU, also known as “Andy,” age 43, a resident of Sugar Land, Texas, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to forty-six (46) months imprisonment for his role in an ecstacy drug conspiracy, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Barbier imposed three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment during which time, the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
According to court documents, TIEU previously pled guilty admitting that he was the source of more than 4,000 tablets of ecstacy that had been found by law enforcement in a residence in Slidell, Louisiana, in May, 2006. Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration had been investigating a possible shipment of drugs from a source in Texas. Agents eventually were led to the Slidell residence, in which approximately 50 kilograms of cocaine, some marijuana, and firearms in addition to the ecstacy.
In related cases, eight defendants, Marlo Thomas, Andrew Williams, Everett Payne, Willie White, Joseph Degreat, and Nakosha Smith, who were involved more in the cocaine part of the drug operation, previously had pleaded guilty and been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt for their roles in the Matter. Carlos Robles and Paul Aguiree, who were sources of the cocaine from the Houston area, are awaiting sentencing before Judge Engelhardt.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration in the New Orleans and Houston Field Offices, along with Task Force Agents from St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. John Sheriff’s Office, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Hammond Police Department.
