WICHITA, KAN. – A Wichita man has pleaded guilty to driving the getaway car in a robbery at a Kentucky Fried Chicken, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

James L. Adamson, 49, Wichita, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting a robbery. In his plea, Adamson admitted he was the getaway driver on June 7, 2012, when another man robbed a Kentucky Fried Chicken Store at 1251 S. Woodlawn in Wichita. According to court documents, Adamson was driving a car with the personalized tag “SAVOY” that was abandoned at 7025 E. Lincoln shortly after the robbery.

Sentencing is set for Jan. 30.

Co-defendant Paul F. Sifuentez, 55, Wichita, Kan., is awaiting trial. He is charged with one count of robbery, one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, one count of discharging a firearm at a Wichita police officer, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. According to court documents, Sifuentez is alleged to have pointed a handgun at a Wichita police officer and fired three times, causing the glass on the officer’s car door to shatter.

The Wichita Police Department investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Smith and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Warner are prosecuting.

In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictments merely contain allegations of criminal conduct.
