OSBORNE COUNTY WOMEN WAS BACK AT SELLING METH THE SAME DAY SHE WAS SENTENCED IN A DRUG CASE

WICHITA, KAN. - Karla Kay Aikman, 47, Natoma, Kan., has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug trafficking, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.

Aikman pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. In her plea, she admitted she possessed more than 50 grams of methamphetamine when she was arrested July 22, 2009, at her residence in the 900 block of Hachmeister in Natoma, Kan.

According to court records, on the same day as her arrest in the federal case Aikman was sentenced to probation for a drug conviction on state charges in Harvey County District Court. Immediately following the sentencing in the Harvey County case, she met with her drug supplier from Oklahoma in Newton, Kan., and bought four ounces of methamphetamine. Then she sold a quarter ounce of methamphetamine to a couple in Newton and another quarter ounce in Wakeney, Kan.

Later the same day, investigators served a search warrant at her home in Natoma, Kan. In her bedroom they found video monitors with a live feed from cameras placed outside the residence. While searching the basement, investigators found a closed door. Aikman was hiding on the other side of the door and attempted to keep investigators from opening the door by pushing on the other side.

Co-defendants in the case are:

Michael Scott Berg, who was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison.
Jaimi Michelle Lettau, who is set for sentencing May 13, 2010.

Welch commended the Newton, Kan., Police Department, the Osborne County Sheriff’s Department, the Rooks County Sheriff’s Department, the Plainville Police Department, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department, the Hays Police Department, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Treaster for their work on the case.
