TOPEKA MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO COLLECTING MORE THAN 100,000 CHILD SEX PHOTOS

TOPEKA, KAN. – Armando L. Ramos, 45, Topeka, Kan., has pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

At his plea hearing, prosecutors told the court forensic examiners found more than 100,000 images of child pornography on three computers, 22 hard drives, and an external drive they seized July 30, 2009, from Ramos’ home in Topeka. The investigation began when German authorities investigating child pornography stored on a peer-to-peer network downloaded child pornography from Ramos’ computer. They alerted Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The photos included children as young as five years old involved in sexual acts.

Ramos is set for sentencing Feb. 28, 2011. He faces a penalty of not less than five years and not more than 20 years and a fine up to $250,000.

Grissom commended ICE and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart for their work on the case.
