Rock Island, Ill. – The second of two defendants charged in the June 2008 armed robbery of an ATM at the Milan branch of the DHCU Community Credit Union was sentenced today to serve more than 11 years in federal prison. Evander Allen Jordan, Jr., 24, whose last known address was in the 1200 block of 14 ½ Street, in Rock Island, was ordered to serve a total of 135 months (11 years, three months) in prison. Jordan, who pled guilty on March 9, 2009, was sentenced to 51 months in prison for conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery and armed bank robbery, followed by a mandatory seven years in prison for brandishing a firearm during a robbery. U.S. District Judge Michael M. Mihm also ordered Jordan to pay restitution in the amount of $112,140 with co-defendant Christopher Scott Myles.

Myles, 24, was sentenced on May 11, 2009, to serve 88 months (seven years, four months) in federal prison. Myles, whose last known address was in the 1400 block of 18th Avenue, in Rock Island, pled guilty on January 28, 2009, to conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery and armed bank robbery.

According to the factual basis presented by the government at Jordan’s plea hearing, Myles shared information with Jordan about the ATM servicing practices used at the DHCU Community Credit Union, 371 West Third Street, in Milan, Illinois. On June 23, 2008, Jordan and Myles drove together from Rock Island to Milan and parked their vehicle at an apartment complex that was located next to the credit union. Myles waited by the vehicle and Jordan approached the ATM on foot. When Jordan saw a credit union employee open the ATM door, he brandished a handgun and forced the employee back into the building. Inside the building, Jordan pointed the handgun at the employee and demanded all the money. As Jordan left the building, he encountered another credit union employee, pointed the gun at the employee and told her to back up. Jordan then ran to the apartment complex, got into the vehicle and Myles and Jordan drove away from the scene. Approximately $112,000 in United States currency was taken from the DHCU Community Credit Union and none of the money has been recovered.

Both men have been detained in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since their arrests. Jordan was arrested on July 28, 2008; Myles was arrested on September 9, 2008.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Milan Police Department and the Illinois State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. McCoy prosecuted the case.
