Springfield, Ill. - Rodger A. Heaton, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois, announced that two men were sentenced to federal prison terms today for drug offenses in Springfield.

U.S. District Judge Jeanne E. Scott sentenced Deonte Hardin, 24, of the 500 block of North 13th Street, Springfield, to nine years in prison for possession of five or more grams of crack cocaine with intent to distribute. Hardin pled guilty on May 12, 2008 to possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute in Springfield, Illinois on November 17, 2007. Hardin has been in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since his arrest on February 6, 2008.

In a separate, unrelated case, Judge Scott today sentenced Charles Moore, 37, of Chicago, to a term of nine years in federal prison for possession of five or more grams of crack cocaine with intent to distribute. Moore was also ordered to pay $1,500 to reimburse costs to the office of the Federal Public Defender. Moore pled guilty on May 13, 2008 to possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute in Springfield, Illinois on October 13, 2007. Moore has been in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since his arrest on January 30, 2008.

The charges were the result of an investigation by the Springfield Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gregory M. Gilmore and Jason M. Bohm prosecuted the cases.
