Project Safe Neighborhoods: Rock Island Felon Sentenced to Federal Prison for Possessing Firearm

Rock Island, Ill. – A Rock Island, Illinois man was sentenced today to more than five years in federal prison for possessing a gun, as announced by Rodger A. Heaton, United States Attorney for the Central District of Illinois. U.S. District Judge Joe Billy McDade ordered Brandon Dupree Jones, age 21, of 3755 5th Street, Rock Island, Illinois, to serve a term of 71 months imprisonment for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Jones possessed a .357 magnum revolver on July 10, 2006, in East Moline, Illinois, despite previous convictions for aggravated unlawful use of a firearm, obstruction of justice, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a controlled substance.

The charges were investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the East Moline Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John K. Mehochko under the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative.
