District Man Pleads Guilty to Assault and Weapons Charges
In Stabbing of Acquaintance Outside the Victim’s House
– Defendant Admits to Stabbing the Victim in the Stomach, Back and Wrist -

     WASHINGTON - Adam Dove, 33, of Washington, D.C., has pled guilty to charges stemming from the stabbing of an acquaintance last summer outside the victim’s home in Southeast Washington, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.

     Dove pled guilty on October 21, 2011 in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia to charges of felony assault with significant bodily injury and unlawful attempted possession of a prohibited weapon (knife). The Honorable Ann O’Regan Keary scheduled sentencing for December 21, 2011. Dove faces up to three years in prison and up to a $3,000 fine for the felony assault and up to 180 days in prison and up to a $1,000 fine for the weapons charge.

     According to the government’s evidence, on or about August 5, 2011, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the victim and Dove, who were friends, got into a verbal dispute over money. The dispute led to a physical fight. A witness saw Dove holding a pocket knife in his hand and swinging it at the victim. Dove stabbed the victim, who was unarmed, in the back, stomach and wrist. The witness saw the victim fall to the ground, bleeding. Dove fled the area on foot.

     The victim was transported by ambulance to George Washington University Hospital and admitted for emergency surgery. In admitting his guilt, Dove told Judge Keary that he agrees that he used more force than the law allows for self-defense.

     In announcing the guilty plea, U.S. Attorney Machen commended Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Detective Edward Truesdale of the Sixth District Criminal Investigation Division, who led the investigation, as well as Detectives Robert S. Cephas, Jr. and Michael Wiggins and Officers Daniel Gray, Lance R. Kashinsky, Thurman Stallings, Ursula Tutt, and Crime Science Search Officer Mark. A. Allen. Finally, U.S. Attorney Machen expressed his appreciation to Paralegal Debra Smith, who prepared the case for indictment, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Terry Eaton, of the Fourth District Unit of the Superior Court Felony Major Crimes Division, who conducted the pre-indictment investigation and is prosecuting the case.
