David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DANIEL SARNO, 53, of Enfield, waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty today before Senior United States District Judge Ellen Bree Burns in New Haven to two counts of mailing threatening communications.

According to court documents and statements made in court, from November 2011 to May 2012, SARNO mailed approximately 300 letters to the executive director of a public advocacy group located in Hartford.  The letters contained vexatious language and, in a number of instances, explicit threats to kill or injure the victim.

Judge Burns has scheduled sentencing for January 3, 2013, at which time SARNO faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years and a fine of up to $250,000, on each count.

This matter is being investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John H. Durham.
