David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that TERESA TORRES, also known as “Teresa Morales,” “Theresa Cardona,” and “Bebe,” 42, of Hartford, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Janet Bond Arterton to one count of conspiracy to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.

According to court documents and statements made in court, between January 2011 and January 2012, TORRES and others sold heroin from a back window of a house located at 68 Lawrence Street in Hartford, where TORRES resided.

Judge Arterton has scheduled sentencing for September 4, 2012, at which time TORRES faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years.

TORRES has been detained since her arrest on January 19, 2012.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hartford Police Department.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan S. Freimann.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gun and gang violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents of Connecticut’s cities. Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
