REDDING MAN SENTENCED TO FEDERAL
PRISON FOR FILING FALSE TAX RETURNS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 28, 2012

David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DAVID BOHN, 47, of Redding, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge Ellen Bree Burns in New Haven to 30 days of imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release, for filing false tax returns.

According to court documents and statements made in court, BOHN is the President of Danbury-based Preferred Utilities Manufacturing Corporation (“PUMC”).  Between 2004 and 2007, BOHN caused PUMC to pay for personal expenditures for him and his family.  As President, BOHN categorized the personal expenditures as legitimate PUMC business expenditures.  He then failed to report the personal benefit he received on his individual federal tax returns.

For the 2004 through 2007 tax years, BOHN failed to report a total of $193,492.33 in income, resulting in a tax loss of $75,899 to the Internal Revenue Service.

BOHN has paid the IRS more than $180,000 in back taxes, penalties and interest.  He also has consented to the appointment of an independent auditor who will perform, at his expense, annual audits of PUMC’s credit card expenditures and his personal income tax filings.

On August 15, 2011, BOHN pleaded guilty to one count of filing a false federal tax return.

This matter was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rahul Kale.
