U.S. ATTORNEY ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISION CHIEF MARILYN FERGUSON RECOGNIZED AT ANNUAL U.S. ATTORNEY DIRECTOR’S AWARDS CEREMONY
DENVER – The Department of Justice held its 27th annual Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) Director’s Awards Ceremony Wednesday, during which 161 award recipients from more than 45 districts were recognized for their dedication to carrying out the mission of the Department of Justice. Among the award recipients was Marilyn Ferguson, the Chief of the Administrative Division for the Colorado U.S. Attorney’s Office. Recipients included Assistant United States Attorneys, law enforcement agents, litigation teams and others who have made outstanding contributions in federal, state and local law enforcement.
“These award recipients have been honored for their service and dedication to our country, as well as to their local communities,” said Attorney General Eric Holder. “Each of these committed public servants has helped to advance the Justice Department’s critical work. Their contributions have had a powerful impact in ensuring the strength of our justice system, the security of our communities, and the promise of our democracy."
“Marilyn is one of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s unsung heroes,” said U.S. Attorney John Walsh. “She is responsible for all administrative aspects of this office, including budget, human resources, procurement, IT, and other daily common office functions. She works long hours with great skill to assure that our legal team can focus on its work representing the American people in federal court. The men and women of the U.S. Attorney’s Office are immensely appreciative and proud of Marilyn and congratulate her on receiving this award.”
Marilyn Ferguson was recognized for her success as Colorado’s Administrative Officer who creatively designed innovative procedures and systems that have dramatically improved the services provided by her division, increased the transparency of the budgeting process, and saved the office thousands of dollars. Ms. Ferguson has crafted new procedures, charts, and spreadsheets that enable better tracking and faster processing of many budget items, including invoices, supplies, travel reimbursements. She has motivated her staff and trained them in new skills so they can assist each other. She has been an extraordinarily hardworking and service-oriented manager, handling the responsibilities of both the Administrative Officer and Human Resources Officer for a 150-employee office. And she has helped other districts, too, by assisting on human resources issues, creating new templates used by other offices, and serving as an evaluator of other offices.
Marilyn’s extraordinary work has helped the Department of Justice to continue its mission to enforce all of our nation’s laws, including prosecuting civil rights violations, gang violence and drug crimes, as well as representing our client agencies, conducting civil enforcement, and assisting victims of crime.
