TAMERA JO FREEMAN INDICTED FOR INTERFERENCE WITH FLIGHT ATTENDANT AND ASSAULT

DENVER – Troy A. Eid, United States Attorney for the District of Colorado, and Cory Nelson, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Denver Office, announced that TAMERA JO FREEMAN, age 40, was indicted late yesterday by a federal grand jury in Denver for interference with a flight attendant and assault. FREEMAN is in custody and will be the subject of a detention hearing on July 26, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.

According to the indictment, on or about July 16, 2007, FREEMAN allegedly assaulted and intimidated a flight attendant on Frontier Airlines flight 108, thus interfering with the flight attendant’s ability to perform official duties. The indictment further alleges that FREEMAN assaulted her son and daughter.

Count one of the indictment alleges that the defendant interfered with a flight attendant of Frontier flight 108 on July 16, 2007. If convicted on this count, the defendant faces up to 20 years in federal prison, and up to a $250,000 fine.

Count two of the indictment alleges that the defendant, during the flight, assaulted her daughter. If convicted on this count, the defendant faces not more than 1 year imprisonment and up to a $100,000 fine.

Count three of the indictment alleges that the defendant, during the flight, assaulted her son. If convicted on this count, the defendant faces not more than 1 year imprisonment and up to a $100,000 fine.

“Drinking too much alcohol on a commercial flight can lead to terrible consequences, and we take these cases very seriously,” said United States Attorney Troy Eid.

“The FBI takes matters of public safety on aircraft seriously and, in this case, worked closely with the Denver Police Department,” said Acting FBI Special Agent in Charge Cory Nelson.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Denver Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brenda Taylor.

The charges are only allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
