MILITARY STYLE BANDIT SENTENCED FOR ARMED BANK ROBBERIES

DENVER – PATRICK SALVADOR was sentenced today by Chief US District Court Judge Lewis T. Babcock to serve 420 months (35 years) in federal prison for nine armed bank robberies in the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs. Chief Judge Babcock also ordered SALVADOR to pay restitution totaling $247,768.37 joint and several with co-defendant ZACHARY SMALLCANYON. SALVADOR and SMALLCANYON were called the "Military Style Bandits" because of the equipment and firearms they used to rob banks.

ZACHARY SMALLCANYON was sentenced by Chief Judge Babcock on November 21, 2006 to serve 300 months (25 years) in federal prison, and ordered to pay restitution totaling $243,897.34 joint and several with SALVADOR.

On January 25, 2006 a Criminal Complaint was issued charging SALVADOR and SMALLCANYON with armed bank robbery. They surrendered to the FBI on January 30, 2006 in Overland Park, Kansas. On February 6, 2006, a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging both defendants with armed bank robbery and carrying a weapon in furtherance of a crime of violence. On September 1, 2006, SMALLCANYON pled guilty to armed bank robbery and the weapons charge. On September 14, 2006, SALVADOR pled guilty to armed bank robbery and the weapons charge.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Colorado Springs Police Department, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Littleton Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol. Agents and officers from the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force also provided substantial contributions towards this investigation. The Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force includes representatives from the Aurora Police Department, Denver Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Protective Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Dave Conner and Greg Holloway.
